Biography
Amy Morris joined BYU–Hawaii in September 2025 and works as the Theatre Production Manager and Costumer, as well as the Administrative Assistant for the Center for Learning & Teaching.
In Theatre, Amy helps keep productions moving from the first auditions through to the final performance. She manages production schedules, audition and rehearsal administration, publicity, and communication with the cast and crew. She also sources, alters, and makes costumes for each production. Her love of sewing started when she was very young, learning from her grandmother in England. Young enough, in fact, to accidentally sew through her thumb! Sewing stayed a hobby throughout her life, so she has loved having the chance to turn something she has always enjoyed into part of her work. In Spring 2026, she taught Theatre Costume and Makeup for the first time and found that she loved teaching too. Her favorite part of the job, though, is the students. They keep her on her feet!
At the Center for Learning & Teaching, Amy is usually working behind the scenes. She organizes schedules, workshops and trainings, manages the CLT website and Canvas courses, and helps coordinate Colloquium and the Instructional Development Seminar training courses for faculty.
Amy was born in Cheltenham, England, the youngest of six children. She and her husband, Dr. Michael Morris, a Theatre professor at BYU–Hawaii, moved their family to Hawaiʻi in 2024 when Michael joined the faculty. They have seven children, ages 12 to 21. In the two years they have had the privilege of living here, their family has loved learning more about Hawaiʻi's history and culture, and getting to know students from so many different countries and backgrounds.
Coming to work at BYU–Hawaii was a big change for Amy. It was her first job since becoming a mother. For more than a decade, much of her time was spent raising and homeschooling her seven children. Their family also fostered more than 30 children during those years. Amy served as a Relief Society president and a temple ordinance worker while continuing her own education. She recently graduated from BYU–Pathway Worldwide with a bachelor's degree in Applied Business Management. As she has continued her education, she has felt Heavenly Father guiding her toward further study, with maybe law school in her future.
Their oldest son recently became engaged, their second son has been called to serve in the Colorado Denver East Mission, and their third son has started taking classes at BYU–Hawaii as a concurrent student. Their younger children are already looking forward to the opportunities their connection with the university may bring.
When she isn't working, Amy is happiest spending a day at the beach with her children or crafting with them. She loves reading history and sociology, especially books about social justice, and she plays the piano. Recently, she also picked up her saxophone again for the first time in 25 years.
