Biography
Elder E. Jeffrey Hill is currently a service missionary teaching Personal and Family Finance in the Willes Center for International Entrepreneurship at Brigham Young University-Hawaii.
Elder Hill retired in 2023 as a Professor of Family Life at Brigham Young University where he taught classes in family finance, work and family, home and family living, and family processes to more than 21,000 students. He, with Dr. Bryan Sudweeks, wrote the textbook, “Fundamentals of Family Finance: Living Joyfully within your Means” which is used by thousands of university students every year at BYU, BYU-H, and BYU-I.
Elder Hill’s academic research focuses on family finance and the intersection of work and family life. He has published more than one hundred scholarly articles, dozens of book chapters, and several books. According to Google Scholar, his academic work has been cited 14,894 times, ranking second among family finance scholars worldwide.
Before becoming a professor at BYU, Elder Hill worked for IBM for more than two decades in a variety of technical and human resources research positions. He was IBM’s work and family subject matter expert for 10 years and was the primary investigator for three waves of IBM’s Global Work and Life Issues Survey. This survey was conducted in 74 countries with almost 200,000 respondents.
Elder Hill graduated from Utah State University in 1995 with a PhD in Family and Human Development. He received a Masters of Organizational Behavior degree in 1984 from BYU and a Bachelors of Interpersonal Communication from BYU in 1977.
Elder Hill and his wife, Sister Tammy Hill, are blending a family which includes 12 children, 10 spouses, and 43 grandchildren. Sister Hill’s former husband, Mark, passed away in 2002, while Elder Hill’s former wife, Juanita, passed away in 2005. Elder Hill and Sister Hill were married in 2006.
Sister Hill is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and taught more than 10,000 BYU students in Marriage Prep, Marriage Enhancement, and Healthy Sexuality in Marriage. She will be teaching at BYU-Hawaii beginning Winter 2026 and will also serve in the Counseling Center.
Elder and Sister Hill are delighted for the opportunity to serve at BYU-Hawaii for at least the next couple of years. Serving a mission together is a dream come true for them!
