Biography
Krystal Ava serves as the Administrative Assistant for the Faculty of Culture, Language & Performing Arts and as the Internship Coordinator for Pacific Studies, Hawaiian Studies, Intercultural Peacebuilding, and Theatre. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University–Hawaii in 2024, majoring in Pacific Studies and minoring in Education. Krystal finds great joy in teaching and connecting with students through her previous work as a substitute teacher at Laie Elementary School and through her current role as an adjunct instructor teaching Beginning Hula and Folk Dance of the Pacific. She is also a licensed esthetician with a passion for Polynesian healing arts and feels grateful for the opportunity to use her skills to serve those in need.
Krystal was born in Seattle, Washington, and moved to Waipahu, Hawaii, as a young girl, where she attended Kaleiopu'u Elementary School. She was later raised in Makakilo and graduated from Kapolei High School.
Krystal is married to her husband, Jared Ava, and they were sealed in the Laie Hawaii Temple in 2008. Together, they have been blessed with five strong sons and a Bernedoodle named Blue.
