Biography
Ryan Whetten is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Brigham Young University–Hawaii.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in Statistics from BYU (with a Japanese minor) and a master’s degree in Computer Science from Boise State University. He completed his PhD in Computer Science from Avignon Université in France, where his research focused on Efficient Self-Supervised Learning for Speech Processing. While pursuing his doctorate, Ryan completed internships with ELYADATA in Tunis, Tunisia, and NXP in Nice, France.
Ryan served a full- time mission in the Japan Tokyo Mission (2017–2019), and although being formally educated in Statistics and Computer Science, he enjoys studying languages, playing guitar, and, his newfound hobby, playing the ukulele. He and his wife, Rachael, were married in Kyle, Texas. They enjoy taking walks on the beach together and trying new foods.
