Associate Professor – Faculty of Math and Computing, BYU–Hawaii, Laie, HI, 2022-Present
My primary focus is delivering high-quality education in the field of Information Technology and Computer Science to undergraduate students. I instruct a diverse range of courses, including beginning and advanced networking, advanced programming, web development, system administration, and more. My role also involves mentoring students to help them achieve their academic and career goals within this dynamic and ever-evolving field.

Systems Librarian/Assistant Professor, BYU–Hawaii, Laie, HI, 2015-2022
As the Systems Librarian, I oversee the various technology needs of the library, such as the Library Management System, Discovery System, the library website, and other hardware and software needs. Projects and responsibilities in the library have included:

  • Implemented the OCLC WorldCat Library Management system and migrated data from the previous SirsiDynix system.
  • Managed the move from using the BYU Prove developed Discovery System to using the Ebsco Discovery System
  • Developed and managed middleware connecting various library systems
  • Managed websites, proxy services, and authorization protocols
  • Organized infrastructure for digitization projects

System Administrator - High-Performance Computing (HPC) Center / Department of Scientific Computing, Florida State University, Tallahassee, FL, 2008-2015
The FSU High-Performance Computing Center is one of the largest university computing centers in Florida. The HPC is comprised of 1000+ Linux servers devoted exclusively to scientific computing. My duties included:

  • Project Management – Projects included designing and implementing highspeed networks, deploying large computing clusters, reorganizing data centers, deploying VM servers, and cloud infrastructure.
  • Linux server administration – Managed services for computation, deployment, web hosting, authentication, and network connectivity (i.e., DNS, DHCP, LDAP, Radius)
  • Supported Linux, Microsoft, and Mac operating systems
  • Designed, implemented, and maintained the computing and administration networks, which included core routers, switches, and VPN appliances.
  • Managed system hardware for network gear and servers (Dell Blade M series Blade servers, Dell C series cloud chasses, and miscellaneous rack servers) Ethernet (i.e., Cisco 65xx-E chasses, Brocade BigIron and ICX6xxx, Dell), InfiniBand (Cisco, QLogic, Mellanox)
  • Supervisor - Managed graduate assistants and interns, working for the HPC
  • Vender relations – Managed service contracts and equipment quotes

Independent Consultant – Tallahassee, FL, 2010-2019

  • Verdicorp - Green Energy. Systems consultant. Designed, implemented, and maintained the internal network and system infrastructure. Migrated data storage, email, phone, and teleconference systems to cloud-based solutions. Maintained Firewalls and VPN tunnels between Florida, Australia, China, and Europe. (2010-2019)
  • E & M Communications. Systems consultant. Provided network, security, and system infrastructure design and support. (2010-2015)

PageWest – Owner, Medford, OR, 1998-2008
As the owner of the company, it was my responsibility to manage the organization's strategic direction. We focused our efforts on helping small to medium-sized businesses implement emerging technologies into working business solutions. Our core strengths were consulting, project management, system design, and implementation. We supported Microsoft, Novell, Cisco, HP, IBM, Dell, and other products and services. We took satisfaction that our clients would first choose us for straightforward IT counsel and quickly come to rely on us with nearly any critical business decision. Industries we supported included:
Medical - Provided core practice management solutions, electronic records software, training, support, and consulting for HIPAA compliance. Practices included: clinics, private medical practices, imaging centers, physical therapy centers, and respite care facilities.

  • Manufacturing - Provided complete design, installation, training, and support for Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, manufacturing automation, and the network and system infrastructure components. Clients include manufacturers of electronics, medical supplies, scientific instruments, custom motorcycles, boats, go-karts, and chocolate
  • Banking - Managed data integrations to accommodate federal reporting and security needs, implemented security policies for web interfaces and SQL database connectivity, Microsoft network administration, system documentation, internal IT personnel training.
  • Call Center - Supported the IT infrastructure for Microsoft servers/workstations, networks, telephone systems, and predictive dialers. Clients included a top-rated national florist, customer service centers, fundraisers, and sales.
  • Miscellaneous – Provided support for other businesses including: vineyard, parcel carrier, trucking brokers, accountants, tax preparers, construction contractors, land developers, nationally syndicated radio stations, and news outlets.

Consultant/Analyst - Dunham Group, Portland, OR, 1996-1998
The Dunham Group initially hired me as a Support Engineer for their Nike account. While at Nike I worked in the Desktop Engineering Department doing Tier 2 technical support. Within a few months, the Dunham Group promoted me to a network engineer position where I worked with various companies performing the following duties:

  • Administered Novell, Microsoft, Apple network environments
  • Installed and maintained network infrastructure
  • Provided consulting, planning, training, and end-user support

IS Manager - MTS, Inc. – White Cite, OR, 1996-1998
While working for MTS Inc., my primary responsibility was to manage the company's Material Requirements Planning (MRP) and Accounting systems. I was also in charge of the network and telephone infrastructure, servers, workstations, and other IT-related services.
