Kurt Johnson

Kurt Johnson is the Director of the Teacher Education Program and an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education and Social Work. Additionally, he is the Coordinator of Oceania Teacher Education Programs. In that capacity, he works with BYU-H students from the Pacific, helping them transition into education jobs and roles in their home countries.

For over 20 years, he worked as an elementary teacher, technology coordinator, and curriculum director in the public school system. He has mentored over 300 preservice educators who have served as student teachers and teaching assistants in his classroom. He teaches courses on technology in education, social studies methods for elementary school teachers, and introduction to teaching. His research focuses on using children’s literature for social studies education. Additionally, he studies the influence of technology on reading in the home.
