Biography
Melanie is our new Institutional Research and Assessment Manager. She is from 'Aiea, O'ahu and a proud Native Hawaiian and Asian American. Her educational background is in Marriage, Family, and Human Development, with an emphasis in Gerontology (the study of aging). Melanie received her PhD from BYU Provo in 2020 and moved home to Hawai'i in 2022. Prior to starting work at BYUH, she taught courses in the School of Family Life at BYU Provo and was a Health Economics Researcher at UnitedHealth Group.
Melanie’s goal all through her PhD was to move home to Hawai'i; to use all of the knowledge that she learned to help her people. She feels grateful every day to be able to live on her 'aina and do her small part here. Melanie chose to work at BYUH because she appreciates the mission of this beautiful institution. She believes that merging culture and the Gospel of Jesus Christ is a sacred opportunity. Through her work as an Institutional Research Manager, Melanie hopes to contribute to making BYUH a better University-- academically, socio-emotionally, and spiritually.
Aside from her work, Melanie enjoys spending time with her 'ohana, which includes her husband and 2 (+1 on the way) keiki. For fun, they love to go to the beach, play competitive soccer, eat good food, and hang out with friends/family.
