Misipati Fiu is originally from Savaiʻi, Samoa, and has been teaching Samoan language classes at Brigham Young University–Hawaii (BYU–Hawaii) since Fall 2017.

Fiu dedicated 30+ years of service to the Polynesian Cultural Center (PCC) as a Purchasing Buyer before retiring in 2021. Fiu began at PCC as a performer. He participated in cultural presentations and contributed to the renowned fire knife and fire walk performances. Throughout his career and community service, he remained deeply involved in Samoan cultural preservation and education, being on the committee of the World Fire Knife competitions and numerous cultural events.

Known for his deep knowledge of the Samoan language, culture, and protocol, Fiu is frequently asked to translate documents into formal Samoan. He is passionate about helping students at BYU–Hawaii develop not only language proficiency but also a meaningful understanding of Samoan culture and traditions.

Fiu has faithfully served in many leadership callings within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including High Counselor, Ward Mission Leader, member of multiple bishoprics, seminary supervisor, seminary teacher, and former Bishop of the Laie 9th Samoan Ward.

Above all, he values family and is the proud father of five children, a growing family of grandchildren, and several beloved fur babies.
