Biography
Shay is a devoted husband, father, and educator who finds his greatest joy in his faith, family, and lifelong learning. He has been happily married to his eternal companion for 30 years, and together they have three sons—Sam (27), Isaac (25), and Trey (18)—as well as a cherished daughter-in-law, Ciena, who is married to Isaac. He treasures time with his family, enjoys exploring the outdoors, and finds peace in the beauty of God’s creations. A returned missionary who served in Brazil, Shay continues to serve faithfully in his church and currently teaches both Seminary and Primary alongside his wife.
Professionally, Shay is a seasoned IT leader, software developer, and data strategist with nearly three decades of experience across the financial, retail, and academic sectors. He holds a Bachelor’s in Management Information Systems from BYU and an MBA in Information Systems from the University of Utah. His career includes leading enterprise-scale technology and analytics initiatives at organizations like Wells Fargo, SkyMall, and SuperValu, with a focus on data engineering, software development, and business intelligence(BI).
Alongside his corporate experience, Shay has a passion for teaching and mentoring. He currently teaches Macroeconomics at BYU–Hawaii and has previously taught at BYU–Idaho, engaging students in practical, real-world applications of economic theory and data literacy. Known for making complex ideas accessible, Shay is driven by a love of learning, a commitment to excellence, and a deep devotion to the gospel of Jesus Christ.
